Clifford Brooks was born in Athens, Georgia. He cannot keep on the right side of the tracks, constantly, but Georgia always finds him blameless. Clifford’s first book of poetry, The Draw of Broken Eyes & Whirling Metaphysics, was nominated for Georgia Author of the Year in 2013. The book gave, and gives, the author enough energy not only to keep writing, but the opportunity to establish the Southern Collective Experience. Teacher, madman, loyal business partner – Clifford is not all the same for everyone, but the verse he pens doesn’t waver, ever.
Clifford’s literary endeavors have been surreal. His first book, The Draw of Broken Eyes & Whirling Metaphysics, is being reissued in 2017. His second symphony, Athena Departs: The Gospel of a Man Apart, is expected out next year as well. The poetry within this volume continues to paint his true life’s picture from where his first book left off. Your faith to continue on this journey with him is appreciated. Clifford Brooks cannot express how grateful he is for his momma, Motown, and the heathens of virtue keeping him on course, the Southern Collective Experience.
To date, the Southern Collective Experience has spindled into a magazine, the Blue Mountain Review; an NPR radio show, Dante’s Old South; and a member base that includes geniuses Brooks is honored to call family. Blood is not happenstance. Life is a good, long night.
